Police, Fire, and Recreation Minutes 03/04/14
EVENDALE COUNCIL RECREATION, FIRE AND POLICE COMMITTEE MEETING
March 4, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

In attendance were Ranz, Puthoff, and Albrinck.  Also in attendance was Director David Nichols, Fire Chief Mike Hauck, Police Chief Niel Korte, and Village Engineer, James Jeffers.

Recreation Fire and Police Committee
Mr. Nichols informed the committee that some local parents from Springdale have formed Vikings Youth Athletics to create a feeder program for the Princeton Athletic Department. Initially the plan is to sponsor football and cheerleading programs this year and basketball and track next year.  Mr. Nichols expressed some concern that this may affect participation levels in not only the Evendale Recreation Department but also the other Princeton communities.
The Recreation Department will have a hiring ordinance on the agenda for part-time summer employees.

Fire Department
The ambulance is set to be ordered.  Chief Hauck was able to obtain an Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation grant in the amount of $42,000 with the village contributing 25%.
The leaks continue throughout the Fire Department.  Village Engineer James Jeffers is monitoring the process along with Kramer Roofing and Durolast, the manufacturer.  Due to weather issues, they have not been able to complete the installation and once the installation is completed, it will be determined as to what action needs to be taken, if any.
On the Hollywood Motel, the Attorney General has agreed to a hearing continuance until late April.  At this point, the Attorney General is asking for a full assessment of all fines.  State Fire Marshall is proceeding with enforcement of all violations.  The Chens have not requested any demolition permits.

Police Department
Officer Akers received a Commendation from Fire Chief Hauck as a result of his prompt action in providing CPR that was instrumental in saving a resident’s life.
Chief Korte reports that all three of the suspects from the aggravated robbery from several weeks ago have now been arrested.  The last one was picked up in North Carolina.
The ATV purchase will be on the March agenda and should be passed by emergency measure.
Chief Korte requested an authorization to use $1,000 from the law enforcement fund to purchase Go-Bags for emergency situations.  These bags would carry essential equipment to be used in emergency situations including school or workplace violence.  The committee unanimously approved use of the LE funds for this purpose.
Chief Korte reports that GE protesters have not been a problem and he continues to monitor their behavior.
Mike Parr retirement is set for March 21.

Village Engineer
James Jeffers attended the meeting this month to report on two ongoing matters.
First is the Marquee sign.  It is proposed for the Reading Road entrance to the village complex.  This committee unanimously endorsed reducing the size of the sign to 6 x 10 feet and recommend that Mr. Jeffers move forward with final design and pricing.
Next, Mr. Jeffers also reported on the Shelter House, on the site of the former parsonage for Evendale Community Church.  Schematics were provided and favorably received.  No further action by this committee was necessary.
At 7:10 p.m. by motion of Mr. Ranz; seconded by Mr. Albrinck; the meeting adjourned.
